Shopmobility in the Merrion Centre is now fully up and running.

The service, which is being run by the William Merritt Disabled Living Centre (WMDLC), officially opened on 17 January with a celebratory event to mark the occasion which was attended by current William Merritt Centre members and partners together with representatives of Leeds City Council and owners of the Merrion Centre, Town Centre Securities PLC (TCS).

David Blythe, General Manager of The William Merritt Centre, said:

“The William Merritt Centre is proud to provide the Shopmobility Scheme within one of the busiest commercial destinations in Leeds, the Merrion Centre.

Helen Green, Associate Director for Town Centre Securities, said:

“It’s always great when new partnerships come together and we are delighted to have worked with the William Merritt Centre team and Leeds City Council in bringing this important facility to the Merrion Centre.

The William Merritt Centre are long-established mobility experts in our region and we are confident that this new addition will prove extremely popular and give users the independence to visit our ever-expanding choice of retail and leisure destinations across both the Merrion Centre and the wider Arena Quarter”.

What is Shopmobility?

The Shopmobility scheme lends manual wheelchairs, powered wheelchairs and powered scooters to people with limited mobility to shop and visit leisure and commercial facilities within the town, city or shopping centre.

Within this Shopmobility you are able to hire a manual wheelchair or powered scooter to explore the Merrion Centre and Leeds city centre. There are eight powered scooters and four manual wheelchairs available to hire.

Booking in advance is preferable in order to secure your scooter/wheelchair hire for preferred day and time.

Membership:

Membership will be £10 / year

Hiring of Scooters per session will be £5

Hiring of Manual Wheelchair per session will be £3

Non-members:

£20 deposit required for Scooters, £5 deposit required for Manual Wheelchairs

Hiring of Scooters for one session will be £10

Hiring of Manual Wheelchair per session will be £5

In order to hire equipment as a member or non-member you will need to bring a form of photo ID or two forms of address confirmation for insurance purposes.
